On a nationwide level, our Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Gruner Veltliner 2017 belongs to Austria´s top wines, that´s what the Salon Austrian Wine says. On a regional level, our Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Gruner Veltliner 2017 belongs to the region´s top wines, that´s what the Lower Austria Wine and the Poysdorf Wine Parade say.

It´s phantastic to come out on top of 1000s of top wines. But the international  competition is even more challenging, even more diverse. Thus, two Bronze Medals at the International Wine Challenge approve that Great Britain classifies our Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Grüner Veltliner 2017 and Liebkind WHITE BURGUNDY Single Vineyard Schilling 2017 as one of the top wines worldwide. Additionally our Hommage ZWEIGELT Reserve 2015 is one of the wines recommended wine by the IWC.

The International Wine Challenge is one of the largest wine rating events in the world. And one of the most precious and important. To be awarded a medal the wine has to undergo three tasting rounds with at least 10 educated tasters. Vintage, grape variety and region are known, apart from this the tastings are absolutely blind. Seen from that angle we consider it a great honour to rank among the best, not only on a national and regional but also on an international level.

For the first time this year, we have participated in the FRANKFURT INTERNATIONAL TROPHY and are delighted to have received a GOLD and SILVER medal!

At the beginning of April, more than 2.250 products from 40 countries were tasted in Frankfurt am Main.

GOLD -  for our Zweigelt Reserve 2015

This Zweigelt Reserve is one of the masterpieces of Georg Weinwurm and a hommage to former generations. Accidentally planted in the early 50ies, this wine mirrors the aspiration to pursue an unconventional path with the highest standards in mind. Produced of selected grapes, matured for 12 months in Barrique barrels, full of character, fruit and rafinesse. We have been producing continous quality for years and gained a lot of awards with this exceptional wine.

A rainbow of aromas, frish, crisp and young. A FUNdamental companion to great parties and small victories, pairing light deserts and profound discussions, for lust and love, for you and me. Rooted in the fertile earth of the Weinviertel, meticulously vinificated by winemaker Georg Weinwurm.
Georg Weinwurm masters the art of winemaking and proves that excellent wines have not necesseraly be expensive. The Gruner Veltliner of our newcomer series FUNdament is a young, crisp wine which has honestly deserved the silver medal.

Have a look at the new descriptions on our back labels! For some wines we use the new bottles with a new design right now. We will talk about this in more detail during the next weeks.

What wine expert Jancis Robinson says about our wines

Weingut WEINWURM
In December 2017 we sent a selection of our wines to Jancis Robinson to Manchester (GB).
Here is the wine rating:

Weissburgunder Reserve 2015
Looks more golden, smells rounder and deeper. Brioche and buttery and lychee syrup. Rich and plump, moving with sensuous laziness around the mouth – the perfect wine for a roasted chicken and caramelised parsnips. (TC) 16.5

Like their Grüner, lightly spritzy. Pears and cream and lots of lemon zest, with a bit of white citrus pith grated in for good measure. There’s a weight and a hint of richness, a hint of shimmer. Very neat, lovely spread and presence on the mid palate, and pretty good length. (TC) 16.5

[link:3]Roter Muskateller Ried Schilling 2016[/link:3]
Grapey and floral, elderflower on the nose and palate with a green-grassy, green-gooseberry-like acidity in the middle. Dry. Finishes softly. (TC) 16.3

[link:10]Grüner Veltliner Ried Schilling 2016[/link:10]
Very light, fine spritz in the glass and on the palate. Smells, and tastes, like a bowl of fresh chopped cucumber and dill in Greek yogurt. With a tiny bit of pear sweetness, and pear graininess. Rounded and almost cushioned in the middle, but more stony and defined toward the end. (TC) 16.3

[link:11]Weissburgunder Ausbruch 2015[/link:11]
Smells of apricot jam and melted butter. You could spread this on a hot scone with a dollop of cream. Lusciously sweet, apricots dripping in syrup, but with a decent wash of acidity to back it up. (TC) 16.3

Zweigelt Reserve 2015
Lightly scented. Black cherries across the palate with a very upright, foot-tapping acidity. Very smart tannins tapering to the finish, slim-fit and elegant. Impeccably smooth with a purity to the dark fruit. Little bit of vanilla oak as the wine warms up to room temperature. Deliciously fresh and one of the most food-friendly wines I’ve had this year. (TC) 16.5
