Our Charmanter CHARDONNAY Ried Schilling 2018 and our Kugelberg GRÜNER VELTLINER Ried Kugelberg 2018 won one of the coveted silver medals at the DWWA (Decanter World Wine Awards) in 2019 - and that with 90 points!

Elegant nose reminiscent of pears, green apples and ripe apricots. On the palate, the aromas are balanced with elegant acidity and a good length.“ – so the description of the expert jury for our Chardonnay.

Opulent and rich with aromas of apricots, candied orange peel, honeysuckle and peach. Good weight on the palate with fresh acidity balancing out the rich flavours. Textural with a savoury finish.“ – that was the great rating of the experts for our Kugelberg.

We have submitted 5 wines - 5 wines were awarded. Because also our Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Grüner Veltliner 2018, Glücksmoment ZWEIGELT Ried Schilling 2017 and the Hommage ZWEIGELT Reserve 2017 were awarded. With bronze. Which is a really good result given the very strict assessment.

The Decanter World Wine Awards are one of the most important and prestigious wine competitions in the world. The tasters are well-known sommeliers and Master of Wine - 280 in total, blind tasting up to 16,000 wines from around the world.

Of all the participating Austrian winegrowers, only 91 silver medals and 6 gold medals were awarded this year. - We are proud to be part of it!

100 % in the home game

We submitted six wines. We got six gold medals back. The Poysdorf Wine Parade is the most important regional wine tasting. The wine associations from the districts of Mistelbach, Gänserndorf, Korneuburg and even from the Czech Republic and Slovakia send their best wines to Poysdorf to be judged by an expert jury.

This 100 per cent confirmation of the quality of our variety is a great pleasure, especially in the home game!

The single vineyard Kugelberg in our little village Dobermannsdorf sparkles in Grand Gold. Don´t worry, it doesn´t blare. On the contrary, it´s our totally honest Gruner Veltliner Single Vineyard Kugelberg that sparkles.

It has not only been admitted to the Austrian SALON but has won Grand Gold at the Valtice Wine Fair this year. Second best Gruner Veltliner with 91 points in Czechias´s wine capital – that´s something! Even more, as the Valtice Wine Fair matters in the Czech Republic just as Wimbledon in Tennis.

And because our winemaker Georg Weinwurm therewith proves that he knows exactly what the Gruner Veltliner likes, even in hot years like 2018. By the way, this variety doesn´t like heat at all.

But not only the Gruner Veltliner Kugelberg scintillates in our neighbouring country. A gold medal is also rewarded to the Spitzbub Welchriesling Single Vineyard Schilling 2018, the Charming Chardonnay Single Vineyard Schilling 2018 and again to a Gruner Veltliner, the Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Gruner Veltliner 2018.
In sum, Weinwurm´s great varietal diversity.

Two Bronze Medals at the International Wine Challenge

On a nationwide level, our Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC GrÜner Veltliner 2017 belongs to Austria´s top wines, that´s what the Salon Austrian Wine says. On a regional level, our Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Gruner Veltliner 2017 belongs to the region´s top wines, that´s what the Lower Austria Wine and the Poysdorf Wine Parade say.

It´s phantastic to come out on top of 1000s of top wines. But the international  competition is even more challenging, even more diverse. Thus, two Bronze Medals at the International Wine Challenge approve that Great Britain classifies our Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Grüner Veltliner 2017 and Liebkind WEISSBURGUNDER Single Vineyard Schilling 2017 as one of the top wines worldwide. Additionally our Hommage ZWEIGELT Reserve 2015 is one of the wines recommended wine by the IWC.

The International Wine Challenge is one of the largest wine rating events in the world. And one of the most precious and important. To be awarded a medal the wine has to undergo three tasting rounds with at least 10 educated tasters. Vintage, grape variety and region are known, apart from this the tastings are absolutely blind. Seen from that angle we consider it a great honour to rank among the best, not only on a national and regional but also on an international level.

Bacchus Trophy for Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Grüner Veltliner 2017

A God for nearly godfull wines. No, we wouldn´t go so far. But we have reason to be proud of the highest prize the Poysdorf Wine Parade has to award. This year our Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Grüner Veltliner 2017 was awarded one of only 19 sought-after Bacchus Trophies at Austria´s largest regional wine rating event. And that´s not all: in 2016  our Zweigelt Reserve 2012 was among the trophy wines, in 2014 the Weinviertel DAC and in the years 2012 and 2010 the White Burgundy.

If this makes you believe that with so many awards in last years it is easy to gain such a trophy or that we were just lucky, your are wronkg. Two tasting commisions consisting of certified tasters and representatives of the Regional Winegrower´s Associations Mistelbach and Gänserndorf rate the more than 1.100 presented wines in the course of a blind tasting. The highest rated wines are again evaluated in the minutest detail during a final tasting round until 19 are left in the basket and gain the trophy.

That´s why the Poysdorf Wine Parade calls those wines „the best of the best“ in the whole region Mistelbach, Gänserndorf, West Slovakia and South Moravia. To belong to the not even 2% of the best has to be celebrated in a bacchanalian way: with a bottle of Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Grüner Veltliner 2017. Celebrate with us!

13 is a lucky number. Since 2006, thirteen years in a row, our wines were accepted at the SALON Austria Wine, the championship of Austrian Wine. This year we have even produced two SALON wines: the Meinviertel WEINVIERTEL DAC Meinviertel 2017 and the Spitzbub WELSCHRIESLING Spitzbub 2017.

Our Weinviertel DAC was accepted at the SALON already fo the second time. But the Welschriesling premieres in the liga of Austria´s 270 best wines. In fact, only 270 wines from Austria make it through the multistage tasting. It is not without reason that the SALON is regarded the hardest wine rating in Austria. We are really proud to be continously admitted every year since 2006, and, as a matter of fact, even with more than one wine, just as this year. And I almost forgot to mention: the Zweigelt Reserve was already SALON winner. SALON winners represent the 16 absolutely best wines in Austria.

And why is our lucky number also yourss?: You can be sure that WEINWURMs wines rank among the absolutely best in Austria and are above all of consistent quality.

Good Will - Much Skill – NÖ WEIN 2018

150 out of 5000. No, that´s not again one of the hardly feasible lotteries. In fact, it stands for the Lower Austrian Wine Prize. And furthermore, it has nothing to do with luck, in contrast to the lottery. A good deal more with terroir and skills, with the knowhow how to produce excellent wines. With experience and the foresight to manage the foreseeable drought stress in time; definitely a challenge in 2017. Well, and with a bit of luck two wines of one winery reach the finals of the Lower Austrian Wine. That is to say, the luck to own a winery directly in Dobermannsdorf where deep loess meets fertile black earth and warm Pannonian climate cool, continental air streams, a combination which creates perfect conditions for top wines.

This year, the Lower Austrian Wine Prize selected 150 finalists out of more than 5.000 wines handed in by 908 wineries. Weinwurms Spitzbub Welschriesling Ried Schilling 2017 and Meinviertel Weinviertel DAC Grüner Veltliner 2017 are two of those 150 top wines of Lower

Austria evaluated in the course of various really blind tastings. Furthermore, our Welschriesling came out as the forth best of its variety and our Meinviertel among the 25 best Gruner Veltliners of the category „light“. You have to try yourself? Come on, we are happy to welcome you at the winery.
